That last Doctor Who post put me in mind of this neat 1991 book by the late cartoonist/pop historian Denis Gifford. Unlike the usually wordy author, the text here is relatively sparse but there are a lot of full page full color illustrations of UK comic book covers that look strange, fascinating and just downright alien to us yankees.

Since I know virtually nothing about these myself, I'll just run a few coolish samples. As with the Who book, note the vast differences in illustrative styles.

Around the time this came out, I was collecting 2000 AD and old MARVELMAN comics and, as an anglophile, was naturally drawn to it.

I wish I knew more about Ace Hart, Superstooge and the others.
