Random Panels of Comic Book Weirdness # 54

We've mentioned the Human Torch rather often around here lately for no apparent reason. Couldn't resist this one, however. This late 1940's panel not only demonstrates what it might have been like if Pablo Picasso had drawn comic books but it also introduces us to the citizens of Flatula. Uh-huh. Flatula. Undoubtedly said citizens would be Flatulans but let's not stoop to that level of humor. Seriously. Stop laughing. You know who you are!

  1. FLATULA? I think I just made a 'fatula' in my jumper from seeing that. Ah that sweet sweet Golden Age goodness.

When I first saw this panel I thought it was a typical weird sequence from DC's The Metal Men!
Writer Bob Kanigher and artists Ross Andru and Mike Esposito put
those robot heroes through all kinds of bendy torture! Fortunately
they could always be fixed and made
better back at Doc Magnus's lab!
    As for Flatula...this is obviously
NOT from the Golden Age of Comics!
No wonder super-heroes were on their way out by the late '40's!
