Jerry Meets Luthor

Sometimes you have to wonder what the thinking was behind editorial changes on comic book covers. Here we see the Jerry Lewis/Superman crossover we had the other day on the right with Jerry being confronted by a big mean guy with a mustache and some hair. BUT...on the left we see the cover as originally promoted in DC's own house ads and we see that said "big, mean guy" is actually Lex Luthor! So...an anonymous, nameless bad guy made more sense to someone at DC than their # 1 Superman villain? Go figure.

  1. But was it meant to be Lex Luthor? Perhaps someone noticed an unintended resemblance and that's why it was changed? Sure isn't dressed the way Luthor usually dressed in the Superman comics of the time. Not saying you're not right, but not quite sure either.

  2. Luthor is the villain in the story so it would make sense for that to have been him on the cover.

  3. Aha! Then you'd be right. I've never seen the story, never mind read it. Any good?

  4. HAHAHAHA!
I would have thought Luther would be wasted on Jerry Lewis. But then, how did he warrant his own comic by this time in the 1960s? I would have preferred Bob Hope, myself.
