The 2014 Mid-Atlantic Nostalgia Convention

I may not get out much these days but if I did I'd definitely attend the annual Mid-Atlantic Nostalgia Convention held every September in Maryland. If you haven't yet made plans for that weekend, check out that wonderfully nostalgic guest list!

Crunch Time

With the 10th anniversary of BOOKSTEVE'S LIBRARY coming up in August, we aren't going anywhere but posts will likely be more intermittent than usual over the next month or so as I race a deadline on a big secret project I've had for a few months now. Our award-nominated FOUR-COLOR SHADOWS will continue to be updated daily as long as possible and our other active blogs, already about once a week, should stay that. I can still be found on Facebook as I keep that open in the corner of the screen whilst I work on the other projects and I will, as I say, be here from time to time as well. News on the project should come later this year.

TV 69--Finally!

Finally got this latest addition to the Library in the mail today even though I was expecting it about 3 weeks back. It seems the reseller I ordered it from hadn't mailed it when they say they said they had and then when they went to mail it, they broke it. Logically, they should have contacted me with that info and asked how I wished to proceed. But no. Instead, they ordered another copy for me from a  different seller. And they didn't tell me. I messaged them through Amazon when it was past due and still received no response. I message them again 2 days later and this time received a response in which they explained what happened and said they were surprised I hadn't received it yet. That was more than a week ago. They still didn't tell me WHO they had ordered it from or an expected arrival date or anything.

But today I received it--finally--and I pronounce it good. Lots of info, nostalgia and rare pictures, especially when taken in conjunction with TV70 which I've had for 25 years.

Not going to drag the seller's name through the mud here but I'm not going to order from them again, either, and I gave them a bad review. Not a horrible review but a bad one. They tried to rectify the situation. They just did it very poorly every step of the way.

The Unknown ELO Movie

The Electric Light Orchestra's Jeff Lynne was always a big Beatles fan. Besides playing with George Harrison in The Traveling Wilburys, he was also instrumental in reuniting George, Ringo and Paul for the ANTHOLOGY in the mid-1990s.

Another, lesser-known connection is that Lynne and ELO apparently came close to having their own animated film from the folks who had previously brought you YELLOW SUBMARINE!

Archie On Sale

Attention local folks and those near stores in the Half-Price Books chain. They have remaindered copies for only $9.99 of this lovely Eisner-nominated book which I helped Craig Yoe write a few years back. Note--this is the later, smaller size edition with the Harry Lucey cover and not the raised Bob Montana cover. But still! All 220 pages intact! A wonderful book, if I do say so myself.

R.I.P. Rik Mayall

We lost another one today--UK comic actor Rik Mayall. Like most Americans, I first discovered Rik as part of THE YOUNG ONES, the anarchic Britcom that aired on MTV back in the 1980s. I followed him through various other series and shows and movies includimg DROP DEAD FRED,a  film I quite enjoyed (although many didn't). Rik passed today at the far too young age of 56.

The British Fearsome Foursome

Above is the more familiar US cover to BATMAN VS THE FEARSOME FOURSOME which was more or less a novelization of the 1966 BATMAN movie by ex-comic book writer William Woolfolk.  Seen below, though, are the new to me front and back covers to the UK edition of same!
