Random Panels of Comic Book Weirdness # 63

Anyone with eyes can see that legendary artist Robert Crumb was largely influenced by MUTT & JEFF creator Bud Fisher and his successor Al Smith (whose work is seen here). Heck, Crumb himself seems visually influenced by Mutt and even his official pseudonym, "R. Crumb" is reminiscent of "A. Mutt!" Crumb, of course, grew famous by not just pushing the envelope but breaking it into teensy, tinsy leeeeeetle pieces. Maybe that's why this 1950's M&J panel reminded me of him as it seems like Jeff has just attempted an unnatural act akin to the sort of thing that used to occur all the time in Mr. Crumb's early seventies underground world!
