Well, I don't think most of these folks are "trying to fit in"--They're intentionally making fun of the "Now Generation", ranging from poking gentle fun to outright derision (This is how stupid YOU look). Whether or not they were successful falls to the individual to decide.
These fascinate me. I think it shows how terrified the old-guard entertainers were of the huge changes happening in society. It's deeply sad when you really look at it.
I love this. The 1960s was certainly a good decade for costumes. And yes, a thin line between fashion and costuming that decade. But still, one had working clothes and partying or sunday-go-to-meeting chlothes.
