You'll note that in some cases the celebrities didn't even have to show up. They simply donated their names and faces and an artist painted them into the ads.

Thanks. There are a bunch of magazine archives online, everything from old movie mags going back to the early 1900s to BILLBOARD, the full run of LIFE and many, many more. Most are free. Some, like VARIETY, you have to pay for...which is sad because I'd love to dig through those. These are all from 1950 issues of LIFE.
