On the contrary, its box office failure deep-sixed any hope he had for launching a film career. <BR/><BR/>When he took HEARTBEEPS, Andy was already at Universal developing his own script, THE TONY CLIFTON STORY, with his partner Bob Zmuda. The execs wanted to see if Andy could carry a film on his own before greenlighting TONY CLIFTON, so they offered him HEARTBEEPS. Zmuda thought it was a bad script, but Andy did the project anyway. <BR/><BR/>Long story short, HEARTBEEPS failed and Universal gave up on THE TONY CLIFTON STORY. Its a shame, really, because the script was a work of genius. One of my all-time favorite films. My childhood next door neighbor and I watched HEARTBEEPS 1,000 times on cable back in the day.<BR/><BR/>I bought the video of the film sometime around when "Man on the Moon" came out.
